Self-Care the Scandinavian Way

Self-care has become integral to our busy lives, allowing us to wind down after a long day at work, and decompress. We take time to listen to our bodies, relaxing our muscles and our minds. With self-care popping up on our social media feeds, it has increasingly become a marketed activity, full of new products to buy to increase our wellbeing. However, we believe that self care comes from an inward way of nurture for the soul, not a countertop full of products.

A day of self-care the Scandinavian way can start with a peaceful morning. Prepare a breakfast that makes the soul dance. Include immune boosting foods such as vegetables, fruits, and your favorite beverage of choice. Soak up the sun while eating outside, and breathe in the fresh air. Sunlight provides our bodies with Vitamin D, boosting both our immune system and mood.

A walk around the neighborhood helps our bodies circulation, reducing inflammation and also boosting feelings of wellbeing. Try walking with a cup of iced tea or kombucha, and sip while collecting a bouquet of flowers. Enjoy the sounds of birds chirping, and maybe bring a four legged friend along for company.

Light a candle in the evening, and journal along to some relaxing music. Maybe even draw a bath, and put a few drops of essential oils in with you (lavender, chamomile, and bergamot are some of our favorites). Spend some time talking to the ones you love, or snuggling up with a pet, and gently cleanse the skin from the stress of the day.

Self-care doesn't have to be expensive or full of products. Taking care of the soul is especially important in our fast-paced and unsteady world. We at Scandinavian believe that nature heals, and spending time connecting with the world outside is valuable for our mental and physical health. We aim to provide a sense of community to reconnect with our natural selves, and work towards building a sustainable, supportive source for the mind and body.
